Jim (Jim Belushi) – Jim is a normal, everyday type of man, who runs a construction business, has a beautiful wife and three adorable kids (later, they also have twin boys). He is a fan of all the Chicago sports’ teams and is a huge fan of blues music. Jim loves his family, is macho, funny and incredibly lazy. He is constantly looking for ways to get things done with the least possible amount of effort, which usually tends to land him in hot water, and most of the time, it’s with his wife. He cannot stand to have people interrupt him, a problem which he solves by talking over them, and he absolutely hates to lose to women, EVER! And despite his behavior, at his core, Jim is a very kind and caring man, even when it comes to his sister-in-law, Dana (Kimberly Williams-Paisley).
Cheryl (Courtney Thorne-Smith)-Cheryl tends to be a little more straight-laced than her husband, but does seem to enjoy when he draws out her playful side. Their three children are sweet but precocious, and sometimes make you wonder just who’s in charge! As a mother, Cheryl is kind, caring and usually on the ball, although like any mother, the kids do drive her crazy from time to time. She often teams up against Jim, with her sister, Dana, who is her best friend and confidante. And despite his antics and schemes and her nagging, they do seem to be a match made in heaven.
Andy (Larry Joe Campbell)-Andy is not only Jim’s best friend; he is also Cheryl and Dana’s brother. Now, Andy is not always the smartest guy in the room, but he is definitely the most loyal. He is the one who covers for Jim when he has lied to his wife, as well as the one in whom Jim always confides. He is also known to have a large appetite, often eating for long periods of time.
Dana (Kimberly Williams-Paisley)-Dana is a single, career-minded and slightly high-strung woman, who argues with Jim every chance she gets. (Although when she drinks, she does just the opposite and flirts with him instead.) She is always more than happy to help her sister, Cheryl, get the best of him, even when it means getting her own brother in the process!
This show is hysterically funny and really gives you a laugh! The actors are perfectly chosen and mesh well together and the characters are normal and down-to-earth, making them seem like they could be a part of your very own family. I give this show 7 out of 10.
