The Show “House M.D.” Cast, Pictures, and Trivia!
This series is centered on the career and exploits of Dr. Gregory House, (Hugh Laurie).
Dr. House specializes in diagnostic medicine and leads a team of doctors at the Princeton-Plainsboro Teaching Hospital (fictional) in New Jersey. There are many similarities between House and that famous detective, created by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle, Sherlock Holmes. From his indifference to people, to having only one real friend, to playing musical instruments, House and Holmes are two of a kind. A truly gifted man who will do whatever it takes to solve a case.
Gregory House (Hugh Laurie)-House, as he is called by almost everyone, is a misanthropic, antisocial, medical genius, who has no qualms, what-so-ever, about being rude to people, be they patients or otherwise, or disregarding the rules of the hospital where he works. He walks with a cane and is dependent on the narcotic, Vicodin, due to an infarction (tissue death, which is caused by a lack of oxygen because of an obstruction in the blood supply of the tissue) in his quadriceps several years before. He has only one real friend, and that is fellow doctor, James Wilson, (Robert Sean Leonard) who heads the Department of Oncology. The Dean of Medicine, hospital administrator and most importantly, House’s boss, is Dr. Lisa Cuddy, (Lisa Edelstein) and the one person in the world with whom he has a somewhat romantic/sexual flirtation. All in all, he is definitely not your average guy!
James Wilson (Robert Sean Leonard)-Wilson is the only friend of Dr. Gregory House, and the head of the Oncology Department. He first met House in New Orleans, shortly after graduating from medical school, when he started a bar fight with a customer and broke an antique mirror. Intrigued by the situation, House bails Wilson out of jail and hires a lawyer to help him clear his name, thus starting their long and at times, complicated, friendship. Wilson is also known for having a history of bad marriages and can never seem to get them right, being called an “emotional vampire” by House. He has been diagnosed with clinical depression and takes medication, all the while trying at the same time to make House stop taking his. Though somewhat of an “odd couple”, in the end, the two are a perfect match.
Lisa Cuddy (Lisa Edelstein)-Cuddy is the hospital administrator, Dean of Medicine, and House’s boss, an attractive woman with whom House at one time, shared a one-night stand. Cuddy is also the person who removed the dead muscle from his leg, after he suffered an infarction. Something which was done against his will, however, his girlfriend at the time, Stacy Warner, (Sela Ward) had his Medical Proxy, and gave her permission. Afterward, he is left with both chronic pain and a permanent disability. Though House and Cuddy do not have a romantic relationship, there is always that feeling that just under the surface, lies a whole labyrinth of feelings and emotions that would only take a simple spark to ignite.
Eric Foreman (Omar Epps)-Foreman is a member of House’s staff; he went to school at Johns Hopkins Medical School and is a neurologist. A former juvenile delinquent, he often speaks up against House’s sometimes outlandish way of doing things. Something he feels relatively comfortable doing, as he was told personally by his boss (House) that his imperfect past was a large part of the reason he was hired. A good doctor with a real sense for what is right for the patients, much like his rather unorthodox boss.
Allison Cameron (Jennifer Morrison)-Cameron is also a member of House’s team, an immunologist who is, without question, the most honest and compassionate of the group. Previously married to a man who died from thyroid cancer, Allison is always the doctor who is kind and incredibly enthusiastic, willing to go to great lengths to try and save a patient’s life. Though somewhat flirtatious with House at first, she later gets involved with another doctor on the team.
Robert Chase (Jesse Spencer)-Chase is a surgeon as well as an intensive care specialist, and probably the member of the team with a personality closest to that of House. He has a tendency to insult patients behind their backs and truly seems to enjoy seeing his boss tear into others. He is definitely the most creative of the team, often coming up with treatments that tend to be rather unusual or unconventional, but generally have good outcomes.
Remy “Thirteen” Hadley (Olivia Wilde)-Hadley or “Thirteen”, as she is almost always referred to, (House gave each fellowship applicant a number) was the sexy and somewhat mysterious member of the team. An internist, Thirteen is not known for being openly personal or disclosing what she considers to be private information about herself or her life. The first truly personal thing that she lets be known about her is to House, and is tragically sad. She reveals that her mother died from Huntington’s disease, and it is unknown for a short time after, as to whether or not she herself carries the gene. Some of the other things that make her character so interesting, is the fact that she turns out to be bisexual, and does not seem to need House the way the other team members do.
Lawrence Kutner (Kal Penn)-Kutner is the member of the team that is most often the one to take a risk with House, even if it means something illegal. A sports medicine specialist, Kutner is Indian, but was adopted by a Jewish family when he was only six years old, due to his parents’ both being murdered during an armed robbery. He is a science fiction fan, superstitious, and easily distracted by the opposite sex.
Chris Taub (Peter Jacobson)-Taub is a plastic surgeon who is adept at finding his way around the rules. Due to both this and his combative nature, Cuddy thinks that he is a perfect choice for the team. A married man, Taub has already cheated on his wife, and gives certain hints that being unfaithful again may be in his future. A skilled doctor, but also one who seems to have certain emotional issues of his own.
This show is different in most ways than other medical dramas, with a slightly darker edge to it. The main character, House, is too fascinating and too diverse to not want to watch. Hugh Laurie (House) does an absolutely amazing job of portraying this man, and almost makes you believe that he is actually real. The twists and turns are always interesting and you can’t wait for the next episode. I give this series 9 out of 10.

I think any of those relationships is, of course, believable. Two people can always find some comfort or attraction, so I think all are possible. I think Robert (Robert Sean Leonard, who plays Dr. Wilson) might have something to say about it….I don’t know how Robert would take that. But you know, I’m game.”
